This is one of the best books we've read in a very long time. Its both funny and suspenseful. I could go again almost straight away.

Very good, almost excellent. The cover caught my eye and once I stated reading and got all the characters straight in my head, I couldn't put it down.

Really enjoyed reading this. Never knew anything about space travel, terminology, et al, until I read this book. The protagonist is a blast & a delight with an incredible sense of humour as well as having a strong sense of self-preservation to go along with that incredible high intellect. It made me love him! :)

What an excellent read! This was my first sci-fi but guess what? I LOVED IT. From the beginning 'til the very last page! I didn't even know I was going to like this book so much considering that this is about astronauts in space, blahblahblah...I thought it'd be too scientific and technical for me to get through the book. It indeed was quite technical and had quite a lot of science but didn't expect the humor in this book that would make me WANT to know what'd happen to this poor guy stranded in Mars while he uses his engineering and science to survive. Very enjoyable! In fact, I'm even getting my own copy.

Really awesome. I was tense reading this one, but the humour helped to get you over one problem and ready for the next epic catastrophe.

I enjoyed this book from the first colorful sentence. There's a lot of profanity in this one, but quite understandable in Watney's situation. There's humor, there's science (all kinds), there's quite the gamut of emotional situations. It was fascinating to read how Watney fended for himself when he was out of contact with NASA, and then how he kind of resented the outside input (or interference, depending on his mood). I was hooked from the get-go and ran through quite a range of emotions myself; however, humor was the overriding one and it was great. I hope Watney got to Australia like he wanted to (to be as far as possible from potatoes):)

In space, no one can hear you scream like a little girl. Also, Macgyver on Mars would have been an alternative title - - good read!

Astronaut Mark Watney is stranded on Mars and must use his engineering experience, humor and limited botany experience to stay alive and try to contact NASA back on Earth.

This is a two-sitting book. You'll pick it up and read the first 20 pages or so and think, "Oh, OK, I get it. I wonder what happens to this guy?"
Then you'll pick it up for the second time and you will get so drawn into it that you will forsake food, sleep, Facebook and your loved ones until you have turned the last page.

Probably the best novel I have read in the past 4 years.

An easy read for someone really into science and the space program. May be too technical for some.

"Hell yeah I'm a botanist1 Fear my botany powers!"

"Remember those old math questions you had in algebra class? Where water is entering a container at a certain rate and leaving it at a different rate and you need to find out when it will be empty? Well, that concept is critical to the 'Mark Watney doesn't' project I'm working on."

"Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped."
