History and humor and a smidge more (audio)
Annotation:In November 1942 an American cargo plane crashed in Greenland. The first rescue plane sent searching crashed, and the second disappeared in a blizzard. Who would survive? And how?
Annotation:'A tale so gripping that one questions the need for fiction when real life is so plump with drama and intrigue' (Associated Press). At 30 discs, this will keep you driving and listening for a while.
Annotation:A tour of Kaling's life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood.
Annotation:Hilarious and heartbreaking both. Eddie Huang is brilliant. (This is not available in a cd format from the library, only downloadable audio, but I had to include it in the list.)
Annotation:An award-winning memoir that goes far beyond being a riveting medical mystery. It's the account of one woman’s struggle to recapture her identity after an autoimmune reaction to an unknown pathogen that jump-started a brain inflammation. It could happen to anyone.
Annotation:Demonstrates that without a doubt, we humans are so easily swayed away from rationality. Winner of multiple awards and honors in 2011 and 2012.
Annotation:Another great piece of narrative nonfiction set in the great Northwest. Must read. Must read before the movie comes out.
Annotation:Amazing story of a Northwest icon. We've all seen the images, but do we know anything about the photographer himself? I did not. My favorite book of 2012.

It can be hard to find any time to read a great book when you're a single mom. There's so much to attend to that your day is over-full, and then you fall into bed to find there are cookie crumbs in the sheets and the kids' socks on your pillow. Then it's morning and you do it all again. But there IS that drive to and from work, and your car still has a cd player...hmmmm.
