I savoured this book, really took my time. Each paragraph is so good. It's almost astonishing to hear the voice of someone so honest. My favourites include his account of a meth addiction. It's really, honestly, funny!?

"David Sedaris' observations about life, relationships, family, the world, and human nature are insightful, inspiring, occasionally sad, and often downright funny! This is a great read for someone who wants to venture into nonfiction…

One of my favorite books by David Sedaris. I think you have to be a fan of a certain kind of humor to really appreciate and love him. It's not in-your-face humor... it's wry, intelligent humor along the lines of comic Tig Nataro.

A little conflicted with myself to give this a 2.5 stars, but honestly was a little let down. Sure it had the witty humor and whimsical imagination of David Sedaris in parts, but honestly after completing I was left questioning "So what…

I adore David Sedaris. And this is one of his best collections of stories. Listening to his audiobooks allows you to hear him tell his own tales. Always better.

This is a great collection from humorist David Sedaris. Part autobiographical with a self deprecating bent, and part witty observations on life and the world around him. At times intelligent and insightful, at others . . . something very…

Sedaris tries hard, in this instance perhaps too hard to be funny. Not his best work

A quick read but really not very funny. Some things were clever, some were just snide. Can't recommend

This was the first book I read by David Sedaris and it is pee-your-pants funny (yes, that actually happened!). This next bit doesn't sound like a recommendation for the book but there is a section where Sedaris is attempting to be an art…

Parts of this book I thought were very funny, but for the most part I didn't enjoy this book. I really liked the pet story.

I chose this as the last book selection of the year for my Books & Beer book club and it was to mixed reviews. At the risk of being sexist, most of the members that attended this month were female and I believe, for the most part, David…

Absolutely hilarious and laugh out loud funny. My favorite stories center around Sedaris' recollections of learning to speak the French language while living in France.

I guess I had too high an expectation for this book since people were talking about how hilarious this book was. Also, t's more than true that people have their own taste of humor. The first 2-3 chapters were fun to read, especially the…

This book came highly recommended, so, of course, my expectation was really high. I suppose that set the benchmark a little too high, because it didn't seem to be as hilarious as many said it is. That's my opinion though. Everyone…

a book to read in snatches; boring if read straight through

I started reading David Sedaris's short stories since I heard him interviewed on CBC Q. Since then I have been through just about every one of his short story collections. Quick reads, funny, and the human behaviour observations are as…

The audio of this book is read by the author, which is perfect, since it's a rough autobiography of his life. I really enjoyed Sedaris' dry humor, his frankness and the ability to find humor in himself and the world around him.

David Sedaris is one of my favorite authors. He really does have a knack for turning every day experiences into hilarious stories. I was laughing out loud reading about his misadventures in learning French.

Sedaris is a master at recounting his quirky everyday incidents in such a genuine, but-of-course manner that kept me laughing through most of the book. This collection of essays centers on his time as an American learning to live in…
