I "read" this book by listening to it on audio which I'm sure made it easier to stay with the story. I enjoy historical fiction and this book is partly that, although more focused on the stresses of a few particular relationships. Although…

Overall, I wouldn't call this a 'good' story, but I think it is a helpful peak into the minds of British citizens living in colonial England who did not agree with colonization. It is very important to keep in mind the time period during…

Well... the rating pretty much says it all. Don't read this book. (unless you have to for school - that's what happened to me) Why, you ask? Well, it's very empty. It never really goes anywhere, and the climax is rather anticlimactic. Half…

I read Forster's most famous novel preparatory to seeing David Lean's film of it, which I shall request as soon as I'm finished with this brief and enthusiastic endorsement note. Besides being fundamentally concerned with race-based…

Set in Colonial India, A Passage to India is a story of trust and prejudice. Centered around a false sexual assault accusation, the novel explores what it means to be a good person. It also questions the very nature of imperialism…

Wonderful writing. The book is set in 3 parts: first, The Mosque which is set in the cool dry season. It seems to be about Islam and there is a sense of harmony of things. Second, The Caves which is set in the hot season. There is a lot of…

A classic for a reason. Beautiful and thoughtful, with a cruel clash of cultures at the heart.

Civilized prose infused with raw emotions. The characters are multi-dimensional, as are their motives, which makes for a fascinating read

Last week, a man sitting next to me on a plane asked me if this was the first time I had read this book - and I thought, hey I like you because you are as nosy as me checking out what everyone else is reading. I had already taken note of…

A beautifully written account of British Imperialism in India in the 1920's. Forster's writing is wonderful, but I prefered his A Room with a View--much more humour there.
