People make choices. Some people have the resources to make better choices than others; this is what makes this book so sad and joyless.

Could not get into this at all. The premise is intriguing but the book is dismal and takes too long to get to the point.

This sentiment has been shared by at least two reviewers and I couldn't agree more: though many things happen to the characters and the third person point of view provides ample room for all their inner thoughts, the reader cares not at…

If it wasn’t for book club, I would never have started nor finished “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter” by Kim Edwards. I never developed a concern for any of the characters. I liked the idea, but not where it went nor how it resolved.

Edwards is spot on in her study of Caroline's efforts on Phoebe's behalf and gives a fair treatment of Phoebe's personality. Having a sister who is more severely limited than Phoebe, I have seen my family work through all of these issues.…

Great book!

The book had an intriguing premise and a promising start. However, upon reaching the end of the book, I realize that you don’t really like any of the characters (with Phoebe being the one possible exception) and you don’t really care what…

This book was much deeper and more profound than I expected and I really loved it. The writing was beautiful as well. It was a pleasant surprise and I highly recommend it!

Sarah3434 says is all about this book...only comment I would add is that it gets fairly wordy at times and just shows what our actions do does affect others.

An unexpectedly powerful book about twins separated at birth, one twin having Downs Syndrome. Well worth the read.

It’s a winter’s night in 1964, when twins are born, one healthy and one with Down’s Syndrome. Next is the split second decision that will alter the family’s life forever. It’s a story of family secrets and long-buried secrets. What…

What a beautiful, difficult book about choices, personal loss, and deceptions. What would you do in Caroline's shoes?

I happened upon this book in a book swap box. Always eager to pick up at least one book, I decided on this one even though the storyline didn’t immedietly catch my attention. Imagine my surprise when halfway through I couldn’t put it down,…

There were enough secrets and plot twists to keep me reading til the end. On hindsight, however, it was a very middle-class white look at family life, everyone had a home with a garden, there was a BIG focus on children, and the solution to…

A friend of mine had offered to let me borrow a few of her favorite books. I knew nothing about this novel, but was excited to get into it. The story is set back in the 60s (well, that's when it starts, it then follows the plot along for…

I found the pace of this novel to be excellent, the themes very well developed (family ties, secrets, barriers to intimacy) but I did not get caught up in it as I expected. Nevertheless, it's worth a read and covers a subject that is…

A real touching story. Although a slow pace, it keeps a steady beat as it walks us through the journey between two families. I really loved this book because it is a story totally relatable to modern day and age.

I could not put this book down. A period of twenty years is spanned in this tale and at each new point, different characters are narrating the story. Amazing and poignant. I thought it ended a bit too abruptly.

This was a moving movie from start to finish. I disagree with what the doctor did by sending away the girl with problems. I think the wife could have handled the downs syndrome very well. I am glad the nurse took her to raise instead of…
