Great read about the VERY self centered Frank Lloyd Wright.

What a marvellous novel. Having grown up in the UK I hadn't known much about Frank Lloyd Wright. I found Horan's account of the affair, and of life in the early 20th century to be quite remarkable. The angst Mamah experienced as a woman is…

I read this during a Frank Lloyd Wright tour with a college friend. It was a great way to add context to the experience.

This novel was a slow starter but once I got into the story I enjoyed it more and more. I agree with some who said it went on too long dwelling on the fictionalized inner thoughts and ideas of the two main characters. Theirs was possibly…

It took me awhile to get invested in this book but I became more and more interested as it went along. A very character driven story. It's not often I enjoy a book despite the fact that I really disliked both of the primary characters.

Really, really boring. Very light on plot, and way too heavy on fictional internal thoughts. The main character is endlessly selfish. It seemed to me like 300 pages of apologetics for cheating on your spouse, abandoning your children for…

Good book, but VERY LONG. I love historical fiction and this tale was intriguing. Interesting insight into the private side of the characters. I have to say though, I was disappointed in the ending. For a book that was so long, it seemed…

This was an interesting story but I found it sad in many ways. Definitely wouldn't be a big deal om this day and age but I can imagine that it was quite the scandal then. I have to admit that I really didn't like any of the characters…

So many people recommended this book to me and yet I was slightly disappointed. My disappointment stems from the fact that I did not like either the character of Frank nor his paramour. They were selfish and hurt others withour care. What…

A well-researched account of Frank Lloyd Wright's early career in Oak Park, Illinois and then Wisconsin. His affair with a married woman with children was scandalous at that time. Mamah Borthwick was a fascinating early 20th century…

A fictionalized account of the clandestine love affair between architect Frank Lloyd Wright and one of his clients, Mamah Borthwick Cheney. The book highlights the early struggles of the feminist movement and is full of realistic and…

Interesting fiction about the affair between the genius architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick Cheney. It revealed the attitudes towards women, marriage and "celebrity" in the early 1900s.

This is a fabulous story, based on the true life love affair between Mamah Cheney and Frank Lloyd Wright. In addition, the author portrays beautifully the genius and dark side of famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. You will want to…

Biographical fiction. Good read, strong characterization and insight into the lives of women in the early 1900s. Based on the lives of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Cheney, who left her husband and family to follow her…

Nancy Horan’s novel is a fictionalization of the relationship between Mamah Borthwick Cheney and Frank Lloyd Wright. While I found parts of the book fascinating and appreciated the glimpse at life at the turn of the century, I found the…

An interesting read that provided some insight, although largely fictional, into the lives of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mameh Cheney. I enjoyed reading about the construction of Taliesin.

This book did not hold for me the promise I thought it would. Clear, concise writing, strong characters, based upon factual events, yet, the potential that clearly should have been realized in Mame never was. Readtoday

A great book club read as it sparked some lively discussion (and judgement) about what a woman should or should not give up to follow her passion. A good insight into life in the early 1900's for women and the life of Frank Lloyd Wright.

This first novel is one of those books you have a very hard time putting down. I was fascinated by the love story but the ending totally stunned me. This is a writer to watch. I can't wait to read Horan's next book.
