This is a book so complex that I am sure to read it again . The psychological depth is awesome . Some later scenarios were somewhat tenuous ( I mean believable) specifically the hunting episode. Just be patient at the beginning . Its a…

At the end of Part I, I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about this book. The opening pages promised more than the book has so far delivered, in my opinion, and I don't understand why so much of the everyday life of the main characters…

The Song of Solomon won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1978, and is Toni Morrison's third book. A controversial coming of age story, it echoes the lasting legacy of slavery and racism. It is expansive in its scope…

Prior to this book, I had only read one other work by Toni Morrison and that was Beloved. Beloved is a story that can leave you scarred (if you've read it, then you'll know what I mean.) So I was a bit nervous about reading Song of…

High flying fables in unique sing-song voices conjured up heart warming (instead of wrenching) effect in me. Folklore, metaphor, (self) mockery within (and beyond) a race only defined by slavery, I may have leaned more on the humor side of…

I have no clever words to describe what a masterpiece this is. Ms. Morrison's words contain the world. I have fond memories of reading it in high school, but I needed to be an adult to discover its real value, whis is immeasurable.

With the publication of her third novel Song of Solomon in 1977, Morrison established herself as one of the preeminent writers of her time. The book was her first to earn widespread commercial success, and it also won Morrison her first…
