I really love this series. The characters are funny, but real, the descriptions of the town and all of the food/drinks are vivid and make you feel like you’re participating in the story. These books aren’t literary genius, and they don’t…

When Anne Perry died, I felt a great loss. I had loved her from the first book of hers I ever read. Well now I have found Anne Perry's offspring, her equal, the new Anne Perry. Louise Penny writes with such depth, so much detail, and yet…

Wonderfully engrossing, intricately plotted mystery that brings Inspector Gamache from Quebec to Three Pines, a small village frozen in time out in the province. The characters are fully drawn and compelling; the murder of a well-loved…

This was my first book that I read by Louise Penny! I never would have guessed who the murderer was; so well written. I'm sure I will be reading more about Chief Inspector Armande Gamache and the village of Three Pines. :)

Engaging characters and back stories & a pretty good mystery. No violence, which I like. So is that the end of Agent Yvette Nichol?
This is the first in a series of 17(?).

Finally got my hands on the first book in Louise Penny's series about Chief Inspector Armand Gamache! Lots of twists and turns until it felt like the entire story was turned upside down. Really didn't see it coming - totally thought it was…

“A rare treat.”

What a pleasure to re-read this first novel by Louise Penny. It is interesting to review the character of Gamache at the age of 55 and to be introduced to the characters of Three Pines as it emerges into literary existence.

I know I'm in a deep minority but I just don't enjoy Penny's mysteries. The characters are so precious and quirky, while also lacking humor. The setting is equally off-putting.
I wanted very much to like this series as I love the mystery…

After reading the book that Louise Penny did with Hilary Clinton, I thought I'd try the Louise Penny series with Inspector Gamache.. This is the first book in the series. The book seemed stuffed with characters and seemed to bounce…

I've returned to Three Pines after spending more than several years in Ste. Denis with Bruno. And where better to get reacquainted with Gamache and everyone than back at the beginning.

In my continuing attempt to break into reading mystery novels, I picked up Still Life on a recommendation. I know this is the start of a very popular series, but this one fell completely flat with me. In the end, I had no desire to return…

The first book in the Inspector Gamache series lays the foundation; the denizens of Three Pines begin to come to life, and the little village itself becomes a beloved character. I had a hard time getting into this book; LP is quite…

I listened to the audio version of this book. I don't know if that was my downfall or not, but I found it very difficult to get into. In fact, I found the narration by Ralph Cosham a good sleep aide. I really don't know if it was just his…
