Hilarious, quirky, unusual, unique...I highly recommend this first in a series about a family of private investigators, in which the mystery is the subplot and not the main attraction.

First of a series, and a delight to read. Not much of a story, but the interplay and dialogue between the characters is great fun. It's an origin story about a family of private investigators, told by the eldest daughter. The scenes…

Izzy Spellman works for her family's detective agency. That's a bland way to describe her and her family - which is markedly unusual. Trained in surveillance and spy craft from a young age, they regular spy on each other (and any potential…

Witty, face-paced Private Detective story with a dysfunctional family full of people I'd love to call friends. Perfect summer reading. (I read it in one day, sitting in the shade on our first lovely day of the year.) HIGHLY recommended…

I enjoyed the family dynamic of this one. Lots of quirky and funny interactions that added a unique, delightfully bizarre feel. Though the mystery was rather anticlimactic I can see how this series has promise. A lot like Janet Evanovich's…

More comedy than mystery. Funny characters and even funnier writing. Be sure to read all the footnotes!

(The first book in the Izzy Spellman Mysteries series)I enjoyed the humor and personality of Izzy. She stood out more than the mystery itself. I will read more book in the series. Kristi & Abby Tabby

An okay read. Goofy story of a goofily dysfunctional family in the Private Detective business. First of a series – in this one the oldest daughter can move out if she solves a cold case involving a teenager lost on a camping trip. A…

Isabel “Izzy” Spellman is 28 years old. She works as a licensed private investigator for her family’s firm, Spellman Investigations. Her approach to her work is part Nancy Drew, part Dirty Harry. The files of her personal life are largely…

I wouldn't have minded if this book had been 150 pages shorter.

I couldn't get past the first 15 pages. Returned it unread. I will not be adding this author to my list of favorites.

The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz, which is slated to become a movie in 2011. is actually the first of three and potentially a fourth book in the Spellman family series. Meet Izzy who had the fortune, or misfortune, to grow up in a private…

Quirky PI family series. Not gut-busting hilarious, but definitely chuckle-worth.

A very entertaining series that gets better every book. Highly recommended.

An absolutely excellent mystery, except for the last 3 pages (which in my opinion simply didn't need to be there and took away from the tone of the book). Hilarious! I will definitely read the next installment.

This is the "go to" book for those who love Janet Evanovichs Stephanie Plum series. The Spellman family is quirky, witty and an absolute laugh riot! This is a light mystery, so you won't need to worry about it keeping you awake at…

Izzy Spellman is smart, snarky, funny, and so very human. Her family is insane, her life is a mess, and this novel is funny, engaging, and touching. The first in a terrific series of dysfunctional, funny detective stories.

Izzy Spellman does not have a normal life. Coming from a family of private eyes, it is no surprise that Izzy has followed her parents into the profession. What is surprising is how dysfunctional they all are. Izzy and her parents spy on…

I fun book to read, though in the beginning it was a little trying to get through. The plot isn’t really established until about halfway through the book; the beginning merely provides background and introduction. However, Izzy is a quirky…

I didn't like this story.I am a Stephanie plum fan, which is the only reason I decided to read this. It was commented on as having a similar type story.30 pages is all I could be bothered with.
