Add a CommentStaple back to school book. Kids in my program LOVE it.
I want this book to be in every classroom and every school and really truly followed. A great beginning of the year read aloud to discuss community and including everyone.
A beautifully illustrated presentation of diversity.
Love that I'm pretty sure one of the kids is trans. I had always wondered how a trans kid might be illustrated in a book without explicit reference to them, but I'm pretty sure the illustrator succeeded!
What a wonderful, empowering story of inclusivity. The kids have various ethnicities and disabilities, as well as different gender, religion, and family dynamics. It took me forever to read this 44-page hardcover board book--there was so much going on I scrutinized each page and still missed stuff.
I thought this rhyme sums up the book: "We're part of a community/Our strength is our diversity/A shelter from adversity/All are welcome here."
I highly recommend this fabulous book
