Metamorphosis is a difficult book to read and understand; it is still pretty tough at the high school level. Metamorphosis follows the story of a middle aged man named Gregor who wakes up one day to find that he has transformed into an insect. As the story moves on we see that most of his family begins to neglect him, his sister Grete is the only one who even brings him food. Because of his situation Gregor eventually loses his job, and he accidentally scares away the tenants that the rest of his family brought. The rest of the story revolves around what the future holds for Gregor and how he will deal with the neglect he is facing from his family.

This book is difficult to interpret, even at the professional level there are multiple interpretations of this book. There is nothing to dislike about this book.

This book was very interesting and unique. It was different from other books I have read and I enjoyed that. However, the language in the beginning of the story was a bit difficult to understand despite the fact it was translated and edited, but I was able to follow along. The story was quite easy despite its length. The book was a little too short and I felt like I wanted more because of how easy and interesting the storyline was. I felt like the scenes happened too quick and should have had more time to happen. have personally never read any of Frank Kafka’s writings but this book attracted me the most from other classics I heard of. The beginning was as if we were left on a cliffhanger since it started out saying Gregor, the main character, turned into a beetle-like insect. The theme of the story was very unique and different that can really attract people. I rate this book an 8 out of 10 stars. This is a great piece of literature. @YoumnaLovesBooks of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

This story is unusual and annoying in that Kafka apparently enjoys anti-heroes. And Gregor is certainly an anti-hero in this quick read. The story begs many questions (how did that happen and why? are certainly the two biggest ones), but the one that bothers me most is why didn't he try to do something about it? Gregor pretty much just takes it as it is and then proceeds to want everyone to do everything and accept the situation. I could see how the story could be an allegory, but mostly I found it frustrating. Some people do not think the family handled it well, but I thought they did a pretty good job considering the circumstances. Anyhow, it was interesting, and I'm glad it was a short read as I probably wouldn't have read something longer if the character was such an anti-hero. I'm just not fond of weak characters.

One of the most heartbreaking literary pieces I've experienced.

This story is so odd that I still do not know what to think of it. It was by no means an easy book to read, despite it's length, nor was it particularly profound initially, however I am still undecided.
