After four years of hide and seek in which blogs blew up at the sudden release of any track with her name attached to it, Santigold returns in a moment of global aggression and vulnerability. Honing in on the hyper-media cult of personality, in her unmistakable voice she asks the listener: Into what fantasy do you hurt yourself as you gaze into the glow of your machine?

Up until today, I wasn't able to hear the complete album, finding snippets from the internet and the like. But from what I had heard, I knew that this was one of the best albums of the year. This is what "progressive" means in the music world. Where every track pushes the envelope of POPular music. "Master of My Make-Believe", does just that. And somewhere in the world Gaga, Beyonce, and Rihanna are kicking themselves, for Santigold is able to pull off what they are not, move music forward. Gaga tried with "Born This Way" (one of my favorite albums of 2011), but she is tied to too much mainstream to make the album click with the current radio listener. Beyonce... Rihanna... have not even come close. Santigold holds the tempo of our culture in her very talented lyrics, musical arrangements, and soul blistering directness. There is understandable meaning in every song, and it's hard to say which is my favorite. But I will say that "Disparate Youth," "Fame," " Freak Like Me," Pirate on the Water," "The Riot's Gone," "The Keepers," and "Look at These H***" are on repeat, and I've just listed 7 or the 11 tracks, which informs you of how great the album is. A definate must listen to any popular music listener, or inde genre listener as well. Thanks OPL for making the physical album available!
