In May 2012, bestselling author Neil Gaiman delivered the commencement address at Philadelphia's University of the Arts, in which he shared his thoughts about creativity, bravery, and strength. He encouraged the fledgling painters, musicians, writers, and dreamers to break rules and think outside the box. Most of all, he encouraged them to make good art. This book, designed by renowned graphic artist Chip Kidd, contains the full text of Gaiman's inspiring speech.--From publisher description.

Even though there were moments where the visuals felt a bit distracting, Gaiman's message was powerful enough to be heard. I'm appreciative of people like him.

Meh. I've read better commencement speeches.
Make good art. And repeat.
Graphics made it difficult to read.

This little book is FANTASTIC if you are needing a quick lunch break read or a pick-me-up during a creative slump. Highly encouraging and beautifully written--this speech will help you Make Good Art! The graphic artist should also be mentioned--as the design of the book itself is unique and aesthetically pleasing. Pick this up if you are in need of some artistic inspiration.

Neil Gaiman has long been a most entertaining fiction writer, in a variety of fantasy styles. But here is the complete text to one of his recent little commencement speeches -- given to Philadelphia's University of the Arts -- further enlivened by very original & unusual typsetting by prestigious graphic artist Chip Kidd. Make Good Art, indeed!

Gaiman's advice is simple but not simplistic and applicable to anyone doing creative work. I found it uplifting even though I am hardly just starting out.

Chip Kidd has designed some book covers that I hugely admire. However, I think that this book design is one of his mistakes. The design gets in the way of the text and tries to take over. I almost gave up several times to search out the video, but I did stick it out as reading allows me to set the pace.

Great graduation gift. Totally inspiring and hilarious. The layout enhances the principles behind the speech, I thought.
