"Furo Wariboko wakes on the morning of a job interview to discover he's turned into a white man: red hair, green eyes, pale skin. In this condition he plunges into the bustle of Lagos to make his fortune. Pursued from the streets to the boardroom by those who would use him, Furo hides the evidence of his former life ... as he reinvents himself. In this wicked satire, Furo's search for an identity deeper than his skin leads to the unraveling of his own precariously constructed story"-- Page 4 of cover.

This is a novel about metamorphoses and a satire about the transformation of a black man to a white man and how he is consequently treated differently. The author makes his point, but parts of the book are weak (e.g., the section of tweets) and the story gets away from him.

I had some mixed feelings here. The storyline was not the most well-developed one in the world, and sort of petered out at the end. THAT BEING SAID! I can't express how much I enjoyed the rich and evocative descriptions Barrett provided. His depictions of Lagos - its busy streets and delicious foods - came to life on the page. I also loved the use of Nigerian Pidgin English and would recommend for help with translating! It's worth it.
