Is it just me, or is there something a little creepy about Ikea?

Fair ghost story about four hapless adults who work in a furniture store who investigate paranormal activities. Told in Scooby Doo (minus a Scooby) like fashion. My favorite thing about this book was the brilliant presentation. It’s served up as a big box, brick and mortar furniture store catalog. It’s what made an otherwise short mediocre read kind of fun. So if you can, read the physical book as opposed to the e-book. I liked Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires much better.

A horrifying trip through an Ikea knockoff store featuring some of the greatest fears of our time; ghosts, asylums, and minimum wage.

I don't typically read dark horror novels, but the creative design of this book caught my attention, so I wanted to give it a try. What a fun and unique reading experience it was! It is probably best read in print form to get the full effect, as it is constructed to look and feel just like an IKEA store catalog. Is it a profoundly written piece of literature? Heck no! There are definitely some plot holes, and the book itself is quite gimmicky. But that is just part of the charm, and the whole reason why I picked the book up in the first place. I was hoping for more in the comedic department honestly, since it seemed like it was going in that direction at first, so that is probably my greatest disappointment. However, the book is quite short, fast-paced, and wittily executed, so still very much worth the read in my opinion.

A traditional (but fun) horror story in a unique, creative setting and format. I think it was a solid 3-star story with an extra star for the sheer creativity and quirk. While the plot was a bit thin in some places and spent entirely too much time on other pieces that didn't require that much development, I loved the author's overall attention to detail - complete with the physical book resembling an IKEA catalog. Definitely worth a read!

If you want to read an IKEA parody that is a humourous horror story, this is the book for you. The format of this book is similar to their catalog – the furniture, names, descriptions and pictures preceding every chapter were just as much fun as the story (I especially like the different colour choices). I was laughing before I even got to the first chapter. If you have ever worked in retail, you will enjoy the corporate speak and find the “just ORSK” sayings hilarious. This book walks the line between humour and horror with the store layout being just like a haunted house. (Submitted by DS)

I very much enjoyed this horror novel set in an IKEA imitation store. I had originally thought it was a horror comedy because of the fake furniture store catalog format but it ended up being satisfyingly grim and suspenseful.

Initially, I thought it was going to be a good scary story. It had some pretty good elements - suspense, characterization, true-to-life setting. Unfortunately, it became too far-fetched —-not that spooky stories generally lean towards realism, but Amy and the others went through too much trauma to be alive in the end. Yet, they seem to come out with some minor injuries that soon healed (except maybe emotionally).
The biggest plus of this book was the format. It is written in catalog form, and the products lend to the storyline and, metaphorically, take on the task of some of our actions.

I actually liked this book a lot more than I thought I was going to. It is written in kind of a fluffy style that makes you wonder if it's really going to be that scary. But as the story progresses, it gets creepy and makes you wonder what is going to happen next. I found it a satisfying read.

I picked it up for the same reason everyone else probably did: the Ikea-esque cover. What I got was a really good horror story. It's a fast paced, easy read, that's much better than you'd think.
