Comment
Add a CommentBased on the author's experiences as an only child under China's one-child policy, The Only Child is a fantasy-laden tale of a lonely child's journey back home. The greatest gift that I received from this book was a reminder of the pure nature of animals, as demonstrated by the benevolent stag in this story. How safe, how warm. They deserve so much more from us.
Just lovely and sweet.
Gorgeous and magical!
Such a beautiful book that tells such a sad, yet sweet, story. I often feel that wordless books are a bit hard to follow for kiddos, but this one gets the story across without any problem. Absolutely wonderful for both kids and adults.
A beautifully illustrated graphic novel with no words but lots of emotion.
Review Pretty wordless picture book in black and white.
The little kid is a little too marshmallow-looking for my liking, but I liked the illustration when he/she grabbed the stag's lips.
Beautiful. Dreamy. Emotive.
Great drawings, super emotional and dreamy!
The pair travels into the clouds and sail across stars. They make friends and face dangerous obstacles. All of this is accentuated by the lush detail of our artist's pencil. The stag is a guardian of sorts for the young girl, entrusted to return her home safely.
Beautiful images.
