Her name isn't the only unusual thing about Gooney Bird, new student in Mrs. Pidgeon's second grade class.

This is a fun book! I really enjoyed reading about Gooney Bird! It was kinda refreshing to read about a second-grader who wasn't crazy and spastic (ref. Pippi Longstocking, Huck Finn, etc). Maybe I've been taking care of kids a lot recently :) Anyway. Gooney Bird is great. You should get to know her!

First of all, this book is awesome! This book is for people who like twists to stories. I totally recommend this to anyone ages 5-14.

Lovely story and character that also teaches kids elements of creating interesting stories. Awesome.

My 7-year-old daughter and I read this together and laughed and laughed. I could see great potential in using this as a read-aloud for others in her class to give them ideas for stories they, too, could tell and write themselves. Immediately went online to see if there were more in the series.
