neo-realistic mixed with some humour and a Chaplinesque Marcello.

sadly, the ending is to be expected.

This movie surprised me a lot. It was funnier, darker, and realer than I expected, and pretty beautiful to look at.

Heartfelt paean to 19th Century Italian factory workers. Not much acting but good sets and plenty of buona volontà e cameratismo.
