There are boring books, and then there are...well, boring readers (as a literature prof of mine once proclaimed in response to a student who said she was bored by Shakespeare). Sure, this one isn't entirely upbeat, but neither is life. It's well done, as are all of Schine's novels), and I found it entirely engaging and touching. I hope my four stars offset the others, as it's well worth the time.
