OK, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I was about a half hour into the movie before I figured out it was Shakespeare's Macbeth in a diner. I thought they were just playing off the Dunkin Donuts/ Mickie D's names. I will have to finally read the play.
I had that brown polyester suit!

Like the original, this story is ultimately depressing. It's a good story, well done. Takes place in a tiny hamlet in Pennsylvania in the 70's. They've worked really hard to re-enact the time period, quite a lot harder (it was done in 2001) than an original piece from that time period is.

I don't know my Shakespear. I did notice some small bits of MacBeth with my limited knowledge. What the final word ended up being was that although it had a few funny moments, I didn't particularly like this suspense crime/dark comedy.

Anyone who has studied William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth in depth will surly get a kick out of Scotland PA. Of course, it does not follow the story bit by bit, but it does not have to. Practically everything the movie omits, it refers to at some point. The film succeeds at morphing a classical tragedy into a contemporary dark comedy. I mean, when I first heard about a comedic version of Macbeth, I was very confused. But this movie does it, and does it very well.
