I found these four dvd's engrossing. I speculate a bit: Dryer was orphaned early and faced perhaps emotional cruelty from his foster parents. Neglect and abuse are natural when love is absent. The films here put love at the center of things. Perhaps Dryer has realized love in his passion for filmic expression. 'Ordet' (word, as in word of or from God) was referenced by viewers of the very fine 'Silent Light' as inspirational. 'Day of Wrath' will probably stay with you longer than the one week Dryer claims a film often lasts as a buoy to your life. 'Gertrude' might have found a narrower audience. It took one of the leads three viewings to realize its worth. 'Metier' offers much that is worthwhile but is probably not in the category of film which Dryer espoused, offering transcendence to ordinary people.
