From Library Staff

Sarah travels from the East coast, with it's waves and water, out to the open prairie, with no water in sight, to meet and maybe marry Jacob, a farmer with two children. Will the children like her? Can Sarah live without the ocean? Will Sarah stay?

When their father invites a mail-order bride to come live with them in their prairie home, Caleb and Anna are captivated by their new mother and hope she will stay. First book in a series.

What a heartwarming story! I can certainly see why it won the Newberry Medal. For any child who loved Little house on the praries--this series would also be a good one for slightly younger children whose reading level is not quite at the Little house level.
