The culmination of more than a decade's worth of as-yet unheard gossamer melodies and classic riffs, "Bee Thousand" stood in 1994 as the last in a long series of make-it-or-break-it moments for Guided by Voices. Fortunately, they made it. This is the album that began a new phase for Robert Pollard's most enduring musical outlet, chocked full with GBV's requisite warped but welcoming brand of pop, rock and punk.

While I'm more partial to "Alien Lanes," this is a classic 90s indie rock album, right up there with "Bakesale," "Where You Been," "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain," and "Painful" in the indie canon. Given the insanely prolific nature of head Voice Robert Pollard, the band's discography can be overwhelming, but most of their 90s output is worthwhile. I haven't kept tracked of the reunited band's albums.
