Opinion

From Library Staff

The manager of a Philadelphia coffee shop almost swoons when a Cary Grant lookalike in an impeccable suit comes in to order a cappuccino. Love follows, but it might not be the love you’d expect. This is so charming.

The manager of a Philadelphia coffee shop almost swoons when a man wearing an impeccable suit who looks exactly like Cary Grant comes in to order a cappuccino. Love follows, but it might not be the love you’d expect.

Harboring romantic notions about golden-age Hollywood film stars, thirty-one-year-old Philadelphia cafâe manager Cornelia Brown embarks on a too-good-to-be-true relationship with the debonair Martin Grace.

If you're a movie fan, you'll enjoy all the references to (mostly) classic b&w movies. An enjoyable book, fun to read, not terribly memorable now that I'm revisiting whether or not I read it, one year later.

Liked this child character almost as much as the one in "A Gentleman In Moscow."

Set aside the fact that no 11-year-old I've ever encountered would remotely be self-actualized enough to have the thoughts or conversations attributed to the youngest character, Clare, in this novel. Or that almost no one so consistently could pull off the snappy dialogue attributed to most of the book's other characters. If you can do that -- and I could, actually -- it will be easy to engage in this heartwarming/heart-wrenching story. It's worth overlooking the book's flaws, including some implausibility in the story line, to immerse yourself in the beautiful writing and to root for the key characters. You could also come away from this book with a pretty strong list of must-see old movies!

it was okay...interesting story, but once again, her writing style irritated me.

Terrible book.
I like light easy reading but this was dull, predictable and a waste of time.

Overall this was an ok book. I had read her second book first "Belong to Me" so this book was easy to predict for me. If you are looking for something light this is the book. Otherwise, I found myself skimming through pages to get to the end. Not a bad story line but not compelling enough for me to keep wanting to read.
