Although this is a juvenile non-fiction book, for a busy mom who doesn't always have time to sit and read all the details of adult non-fiction, this was a great book. This book highlights some of the main people who participated in the Civil Rights Movement and provides many great photographs to accompany their stories. The courage of people like Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin, and Jo Ann Robinson is inspiring. Also, the peaceful, Bibilical approach to protest with which Martin Luther King, Jr. chose to lead his community is inspiring. He wanted to employ the Christian doctrine of loving your fellow man and was inspired by the method that Mahatma Ghandi used to protest the British rule in India. I think this book would an excellent read for adults and youths alike, and a reminder of the courage it takes to stand up for what is right.

It took over a year—381 days—for the Montgomery bus boycott to succeed in its goal of integrating Montgomery’s buses. And it took an amazing amount of effort for all the blacks who relied on the buses for transportation to get where they needed to go, aided by car pools, ride-sharing, and lots and lots of walking.
