"In this romantic adventure of wild Afghanistan, master storyteller James Michener mixes the allure of the past with the dangers of today. After an impetuous American girl, Ellen Jasper, marries a young Afghan engineer, her parents hear no word from her. Although she wants freedom to do as she wishes, not even she is sure what that means. In the meantime, she is as good as lost in that wild land, perhaps forever...." --Publisher description.

First Michener for me since college--Hawaii. Pretty good tale with some interesting Afghani lore in light of our current investment and involvement in one of the muslim stinkholes of the world. I do not share his respect for the filth that is islam--a religion which, like syphylis, should be eradicated in the ignorant backwards cesspools where it exists

I have read a few of his books - this one was the best yet (better than Caribbean, The Source). Although it is about an Afghanistan that probably doesn't exist anymore - its a captivating story with beautiful imagery throughout. Definitely a wonderful read.
