I've read a lot of horror manga in my time, but this series has by far been the most haunting for me. It's horrific and scary in a way that slowly crawls into your brain and settles there, scratching at it for days. It is slightly humorous, but mostly incredibly dark. I wouldn't recommend reading this if you are currently in a dark place (figuratively, not literally...well, maybe literally, too.). The story and characters draw you in and even though you're constantly repulsed, you can't stop wanting to know what terrors lie in wait.

This is the most disturbing bit of comic art that I've ever seen. I haven't been so freak out since... since the first time i read a work by Junji Itō.

His pen and inking style is so smooth and detailed that it makes his monstorous drawings that much more disturbing.

The story starts like any good horror story should; slowy, creepily drawing you in deeper into the spiral until you're sucked inside. By the end of this volume, the obsession with the spiral is gettting pretty obsurd. The afterword at the back reveals a writer/artist who is aware of the absurdity of his own work and has a sense of humour about it.

This manga is disgustingly awesome. I've never read anything like it in north american or european comics. If there's a artist or writer out there who could match Junji Itō I'd like to know.
