"Author Jeff Kaliss has scored the first face-to-face interview with Sly Stone in over twenty years, gaining his trust and making this book a must-read for any rock 'n' roll fan." "I Want to Take You Higher follows the evolution and dissolution of Sly & the Family Stone, from San Francisco favorites to global rock stars whose success was undermined by drugs and self-delusion." "Kaliss brings this turbulent tale right up to date, through Sly's enigmatic Grammy performance and his recent comeback concerts, which have left audiences buzzing and perplexed. I Want to Take You Higher includes numerous interviews with original Family Stone musicians, managers, and eyewitnesses to this decades-spanning saga - not to mention contributions from the man himself. This is an unprecedented account of one of rock's wildest rides."--Jacket.

Sly and the Family Stone deserve a great biography. This shoddy, poorly written, and lazy book is a travesty. I can't believe it was even published. It will make you want to riot, rather than stand.
