This movie is laugh out loud hilarious and good for fans of dark humor, true crime, and making fun of etiquette, good taste and what it means to be good.

John Waters has to be one of the more unlikely cultural icons of our time. His early films were an unapologetic, if sardonic, assault on good taste, the most famous of which involving a drag queen eating dog crap. However, his films gradually shifted in the 80s to a more accessible, campy style that brought him a wider audience. "Hairspray" was a hit (by indie standards) and was turned into a musical and later remade. "Serial Mom," from 1994, is a little darker and more satiric than "Hairspray" or "Cry-Baby." The joke's in the title. It's both a send up of suburban values and a media frenzy comedy, a la "To Die For" or "Natural Born Killers" (sorta). The mid-90s were rife with celebrity scandals and prominent trials (O.J., Lorena Bobbitt, Menedez Brothers), so this feels very much of its time. Kathleen Turner (Where did you go?) is great as the all-American mom who also kills people without a second thought. Sam Waterston is her understanding husband, Ricki Lake and Matthew Lillard play the kids. Waters fans will spot frequent cast members Mink Stole, Traci Lords, and Patty Hearst. It's pretty shallow and pretty silly, but one of Waters most enjoyable movies.

A true John Waters classic, but everything he's ever done is worth watching. As your eyes are always on Kathleen Turner, make sure you keep watching the background and other cast, because in his style, all the familiar faces and inside jokes are there.

Of course I had seen this film before, but needed to revisit it again because of Hairspray, Cry-Baby and Pecker, this was the missing link. But look up all his films if you want the full John Waters experience. It's worth it, and I think this is the first time I've given 5 stars to a film just because of the writing and directing.

Meet Beverly Sutphin. Beverly is the absolute perfect, little suburban housewife and mother.

In her immaculately perfect, little suburban home, Beverly just loves to cook, clean and dust her little heart out - All to please her perfectly wonderful husband, Eugene, and her 2 perfectly adorable children, Chip and Misty.

But all is not what it seems in this picture perfectness. No. There's one teeny-weeny, little problem here - You see, even though she does a good job to hide it, Beverly Sutphin is a serial killer - Vicious, vengeful, with a mean-streak in her about a mile wide. And if you ever-ever do anything to make anyone in her perfect, little family feel even slightly bad, then you're dead meat on a stick, baby - Sure enough.

In its warped and twisted, little way - Serial Mom is a truly demented, over-the-top social satire that skewers the media for turning killers into celebrities and turns a one-note joke into a savage romp down good, ol' "Slasher Lane" that is definitely not suited for everyone's tastes..... I sincerely think only Kathleen Turner could pull a horror/comedy off like this one. Funny and bloody!

I found this movie quite funny. It is well acted and has a decent script, but is not worth going out of your way to see. I would recommend this to fans of really dark comedies.
