. The story progresses on several intertwined levels combining a coming of age story of two teenage high school students with two couples each of whose marriages are falling apart, a disintegration that builds slowly but surely and ultimately ends in a tragic set of circumstances. All of this takes place in a small, ostensibly New England town (it actually was filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada) in winter, which as the film progresses truly becomes “a winter of discontent.” The characters and the festering troubled relationships are always convincing and I felt, extremely true to life, a result of the fine script and acting of the entire cast as well as the superlative direction of Green. And the film’s wonderful photography only serves to enhance the intensity of the story.

The adults in this "indie" movie tend to be living troubled lives with dysfunctional relationships with each other. The only ones that seem to have a healthy relationship are the two young people. The dysfunction among the adults leads to real tragedy, but in the end the model citizens are the young "couple." By the way, the beginning of the movie is really the end. You just don't know it and forget it until the end repeats the beginning.

Great cast. Harsh drama.
Overwrought at times,.. but couldn't stop watching.

This was a good movie with tons of great acting, and a good script. Although I believe it could have been better it is still worth watching. I recommend this to fans of newer age dramas.

Good - Snow Angels (2007) 107 min. starring Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell. Sam Rockwell is the perfect actor to play the role of a desperate man who’s separated from his estranged wife. The main story is Rockwell’s obsessive need to re-unite with his estranged wife and how they both deal with marital separation. In a subplot, we have a young guy, who works part-time with Beckinsale at a restaurant while he goes to high school who is also dealing with marital separation; in his case - his parents. The film takes a few minutes to really get going but takes off as soon as Rockwell enters the scene; he was very convincing in this role. Rockwell’s character, a born-again Christian, attempts to build a relationship with God in dealing the pain of loss he’s experiencing. At the same time, it’s clear that the enemy is coaxing him into following him instead – in terms of alcohol abuse, violence, selfishness, and all-around destructive behaviour. Who wins? Well, you’ll need to watch and see. Warning – this is for adults only and some scenes are disturbing.

Arthur Parkinson: She used to babysit me when i was younger, for years. She used to let me stay up til past midnight. I had a crush on her. I used to drop my toys on the floor. She'd have to bend down, pick them up, I could see right down her shirt. She stayed over once, my parents went out of town. And I saw her naked. I took my moms little make up mirror, tilted it under the bathroom door, watched her shower. She was beautiful.
