It's been awhile since I've read a Hannah Swenson mystery- I had forgotten how much I truly enjoy them. They're light, whimsical, sweet, and charming. They aren't going to win any awards; the writing isn't that great, the characters can be one-dimensional and the identity of the murderer tends to come out of left field. Despite all of this, I am always entertained by Fluke's cozy mystery novels. This one is no different. Hannah Swenson, owner of a cookie shop, solves a murder with the help of her friends and family, with plenty of cookie and dessert recipes thrown in for good measure. All of the important characters make comebacks, including all of Hannah's friends, coworkers, family, and boyfriends. There are two mysteries wrapped in Fudge Cupcake- one is of course, the murder of Sheriff Grant, and the other is the recipe for the namesake of the novel. Some of the characters can grate on nerves, including Delores, Andrea, Mike and even Hannah's cat Moishe. It's still an enjoyable read, and I'll certainly be picking up the next in the series.
This is a simple and quick read if you like murder mysteries. It also has some good recipes to try. I don't see what keeps Hannah going with so much caffeine and sugar in her life! Sounds pretty unhealthy. But Flukes books are no fluke! The entire series is well worth the read and a great dropping off point when the world seems to be closing in too fast! I highly recommend all of Joanne Fluke's books in this series. Thank you to the library for access to the entertainment!
Like this whole series, this book is a "cozy" mystery with lots of yummy recipes to drool over. I don't understand how Hannah survives on so little sleep! An entertaining read.
Hilarious fun read as usual from Joanne Fluke.
