"Kanzashi tsumami is the Japanese art of folding delicate squares of silk into three-dimensional flower petals. In the United States, the online craft culture has sprouted a renewed interest in making Kanzashi, with American crafters devising simplified ways to create these gorgeous fabric flowers, and incorporating more user-friendly materials like cotton and synthetic fabrics along with the traditional silks."--Cover.

This book talks about the traditional way of making kanzashi but has you use a more modern, simplified version. Most of the patterns follow the same basic concepts. A minimal amount of sewing knowledge is needed. A lot of the projects were big and showy, but there were some smaller ones (such as a pair of cute stud-style earrings).
