A truly original addition to the time-travel canon. These Spaniards put together a really fun movie with a few ethical questions thrown in for good measure. Highly recommended.

Intriguing and clever variation on the well-worn sci-fi time travel plot. This Spanish film starts with some horror-like elements: a mysterious phone call, a woman in the woods, a man whose face is covered in bloody bandages. I won't discuss the plot as it's better to go in cold. As with most time travel movies, your enjoyment is predicated on just accepting and not trying to figure out the logic (Something another time travel movie, "Looper," addressed directly.). Director Nacho Vigalondo keeps his set up simple and his cast small, which gives it an almost theatrical feel at times. I'm not sure it all makes sense, but it kept me interested and guessing. His latest film is the rather terrible looking monster comedy with Anne Hathaway, "Colossal." Also check out "Primer."

If you liked this one, then I think you will like "predestination." It will have you curious till the end.

So... what drove the very first Hector into the time machine??

A seemingly simple but increasing complex time travel mind bender. But then, aren't they all :-)

Don't judge this quirky Spanish time travel film by its cover, which makes it look like some kind of slasher flick. It's actually a brilliantly conceived, artfully structured, well-directed mind game that will leave you shaking your head in wonderment. Fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Hector and his wife Clara are busy setting up their new home in the country when he notices some strange goings-on in the bushes across the road. Armed with a pair of binoculars he sets off to investigate while his wife, unaware of his concerns, takes the car into town. In the forest he comes upon the body of a nude woman who may or may not be dead and is momentarily taken aback until a madman wrapped in bloody bandages and sporting a mean pair of scissors makes a sudden appearance. Fleeing for his life, Hector eventually stumbles upon a mysterious laboratory complex hidden amongst the trees where a most unusual experiment is taking place... What follows is a surprisingly lucid and engaging story involving time travel and altering the future that throws a volley of paradoxical curve balls our way while piling on the suspense. Vigalondo keeps a firm directorial grip on the proceedings, doling out just enough clues to keep you hooked while softening some of the plot’s more illogical elements with a darkly twisted humour. It’s a temporal Frankenstein story that’s sure to lead to some interesting discussions afterwards, but to say more would be a disservice. Keep your eyes opened!

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

Absolutely love this movie. Watch it knowing as little going in as possible. Avoid the trailer at all costs.

Checked this out on a whim (don't let the name or cover fool you) and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I haven't seen a sci-fi thriller like this in quite some time. Highly recommended to fans of the time slip/fate aspect of Donnie Darko and/or thrillers where everything goes horribly wrong (see A Simple Plan).

This is as much a black comedy as a science-fiction story. The directory, Nacho Vigalondo, likes to mix tense situations with dark humor. It's not laugh-out-loud funny, but the Vigalondo uses the time-travel loops to change our perspective on action we've already seen, just as the punch line of a joke can reframe the joke's setup. It's worth checking out Vigalondo's earlier work, the short "7:35am": http://vimeo.com/3628021 .
