"Dear Momma-Wherever you are, if you ever heard the word "ni****" again, remember they are advertising my book."
A scorching memoir, that is by turns heartbreaking and hilarious, by comedian/activist Dick Gregory, who grew up poor, became a track star and then found success as a comedian. It's something of a hipper, funnier companion piece to Richard Wright's classic "Black Boy." Is definitely enlightening for the reader seeking to understand the struggles of a black man in the 50s and 60s.
