Whomever created this series was really thinking outside the box. Drama, humor, sci-fi, and action all rolled into a unique story line. Very enjoyable.

Can't believe I waited so long to check this one out. Incredible acting, fun storyline, and a great overall drama. Would highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a fun show to binge watch on a rainy afternoon.

John Simm does a phenomenal job in this show. I enjoyed the way the show keeps you guessing up to the end about what is actually going on with his character.

Keeping the storyline open and full of questions keeps this series alive and allows the many writers / directors much freedom to create original content.

Dark comedy, crime / mystery, drama, possible sci-fi..

Stellar dialogue, wit, intelligence, acting, stories, themes, cinematography, as expected from the British.

Characters believable, multidimentional, evolve with ephisodes.

Entertaining in every way: visual, intellectual, action, etc.

Filled with common universal themes: Life, death, love, loss, fear, integrity, violence, passion, focus, teamwork, morals, values, crime, corruption, power, doing things "by the book" (law and order) , doing your best..

I could go on and on.

Well worth watching bonus interviews, commentaries, and deleted scenes to better understand the process of story telling in this series.

Excelelnce in all aspects of the creatve process.

The beauty of this show is that it's not your usual any-genre thing. There's the fun buddy cop aspects, which are subtly subverted at times, and lampooned at times. There's a mystery (time travel? coma? the first season leans heavily toward one, but the second season plays more with the other, and the conclusion is pretty much perfect). There's the social commentary regarding justice and personal power- where's the line between good cops and bad cops? And the background....fantastic music from the period, and you'll swear it was shot in 1973. The hair, the clothes, the makeup, the sets (interior and exterior), the props, even some of the camera angles and tricks. I was blown away by the layers of this series and how fun, and intelligent, it is.

If you are running low on high-quality British detective shows, this one is for you! Time travel, super acting, interesting characters, smart dialog, and great soundtrack. Love, love love the writing on this this.

Outstanding series. Profoundly original and clever. Hysterically funny, as well as vulgar, bloody, sad, and tense. Acting is superb; only weak character is Annie Cartwright. She looks perpetually dazed. Plus the most phenomenal soundtrack with, thankfully, no disco.

DCI Sam Tyler is returning to the police station when he gets hit by a car, sent into a coma, and inexplicably transported back in time to 1973. There Sam is a Detective Inspector and he must butt heads with the current DCI in Manchester England where Sam grew up. The police procedures are primitive by today's standards although Sam remembers modern techniques. Besides working on cases Sam tries to figure out whether he is in a coma or whether he has really been transported back in time. Series 1 of this BBC version has excellent acting, great music and a realistic feel of the 70s. The Life on Mars series was also made in other countries such as the United States and Spain.
