As a first-time investor looking to educate myself before investing, I highly recommend this book. Each chapter goes in depth, sometimes more than I need, but there's a helpful summary at the end of each chapter. In addition to information about ETFs in general, there are also chapters on different portfolio management strategies that include specific recommendations for your portfolio make-up based on your financial goals. It's one thing to know that ETFs are a good investment, but it's even better to know that Ferri considers an aggressive portfolio management allocation to be 80% stock ETFs and 20% bond ETFs and a conservative allocation to be 40% stock ETFs and 60% bonds. (He lists 5 allocations for varying financial goals and amount of volatility you can stomach.) You can decide which allocation best meets your needs and then choose specific ETFs accordingly.
