When Devil, the most infamous member of the Cynster family, is caught in a compromising position with plucky governess Honoria Wetherby, he astonishes the entire town by offering his hand in marriage. No one dreamed this scandalous rake would ever take a bride. And as society mamas swooned at the loss of England′s most eligible bachelor, Devil′s infamous Cynster cousins began to place wagers on the wedding date. But Honoria wasn′t about to bend society′s demands and marry a man "just" because they′d been found together virtually unchaperoned. No, she craved adventure, and while solving the murder of a young Cynster cousin fit the bill for a while, she decided that once the crime was solved she′d go off to see the world. But the scalding heat of her unsated desire for Devil soon had Honoria craving a very different sort of excitement. Could her passion for Devil cause her to embrace the enchanting peril of a lifelong adventure of the heart?

Terrible, terrible, terrible book. I was so bored halfway through that I ended up skipping several chapters to get to the end to confirm who we all knew who the killer would be as the author made it painfully obvious. Very boring read, honestly, don't bother. I know it was one of the authors first books so hopefully the rest are better.

19/3 - I've been reading about the Cynsters for years, now I've finally gotten a hold of a copy of the original book from the library. Can't wait to see where it all started, the book that spawned 22 further books, so far (I wouldn't be surprised to see more Cynster stories featuring the younger set's children in the future, series like that can be never-ending). To be continued...

SPOILERS FROM NOW ON!!!!!!

20/3 - Tolly's (what on earth is that short for?) half brother, Charles, is looking a little suspicious to me at the moment. If he does turn out to be the killer I'll be both disappointed and triumphant. Disappointed because that was way too easy to work out, and triumphant because "Yay! I worked it out!". Lots of chuckles as I'm reading, especially at Vane and Charles, and the Claypole's reactions to the news that Honoria was now Devil's duchess to be. To be continued...

24/3 - Yep, it was Charles - that was way too easy to work out - I didn't know why but it was obvious from the beginning who. This book was a great return to the Stephanie Laurens of old (return for me as I have been reading a lot of the more recent entries in the series, which have often been disappointing). This was full of hot sex scenes (although they were a bit bunched into the last third of the book, making that last third seem like one long sex scene, especially as I read it all in one sitting), great banter between the hero and heroine, an alpha male who thinks women (especially his women) shouldn't worry their pretty little heads about anything more taxing than embroidery and menu planning, a mostly intelligent female who won't just be a pretty face and is ready to stand up to the intimidating fury of her husband, and interesting side characters (most of whom are family, of course with such a large family you're related to practically everyone in the area) who aren't just faceless names there to fill out the character list. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I loved this book. I like that Devil decided shortly after meeting Honoria that she would be his Duchess. Of course, she has aspirations of her own and has no intention of marrying. Their squabbles are enjoyable in that Honoria will not let Devil have the last word. This book needs to be read first in order to understand each brother's nickname and how it was bestowed.

Devil the main character here and a few of the matriarchs in the Cynster family series are are introduced in the Bastion Series. I started reading out of order with the first three Cynster Family books, then started the Bastion Series. Either way so far is fine. I am on book 5 in the Bastion Series.
