I didn't enjoy the second Flavia de Luce book quite as much as I liked the first, possibly because I didn't think the mystery was quiiiiite as compelling, but this is still a very entertaining read, mainly due to the fact that Flavia herself is a really great character. Who doesn't love an 11-year-old chemist/amateur sleuth? And 1950s England? And a whole village full of eccentric characters? And MURDER? Bradley once again manages to make this an enjoyable, at times quite funny and witty book, without treating the crime itself as flippantly as it is sometimes treated in cozier mysteries, a nice balance that I appreciated. I'll definitely continue with this series.

A wonderful read about a precocious young girl detective who uses chemistry and wit to solve local mysteries in her 1950s British village. Part of a series of equally great books by Alan Bradley.
