This is a powerful book. It might be scary for some children as it opens up the world of mental illness. Eleven year old Cooper and his little sister Carly watch their mother's behaviour become increasingly erratic. Her bipolar disorder could even be endangering them. When mum's behaviour is at it's worst, the children go into a make believe world to keep themselves safe. This author does a great job making a tricky topic understandable to young readers.
