From Library Staff

The original Christopher Reeve version. The glasses Superman wears as Clark Kent are one of the most enduring images of the character.

What a delightful blast from the past! I can't speak to the documentaries and other added content as I only watched the "Donner cut" of the original film, but it was great fun. I think small kids would get a kick out of it still, though their older siblings might complain about how fake and dated some effects might appear, which is indeed the case, though I was amazed how well some parts held up. And, no disrespect to Henry Cavill who is a talented actor, Christopher Reeve IS the Man of Steel. Such a legacy.

I first saw Superman the Movie when it premiered at the Capital Theatre in 1978, and was as awed then, as I am today by this terrific and monumental big scale motion picture. Christopher Reeve was and is to date, the most true to life portrayal of the character of Superman. Gene Hackman brought a comic flair to his Lex Luthor. There are so many great moments in this movie to list, but if you want to see a comic book adaptation done right, look no further than this film. Classic and timeless.

The greatest superhero movie of all time still holds up as amazing today. Not as flashy as the recently released Man of Steel but still a great movie.

For me, there will be no other than can take away the Clark Kent/Superman role from Christopher Reeve.
