I am enjoying this course. At first I thought the prof was a tad arrogant, but I got used to his style pretty quickly and actually find him to be a great story teller. Each lecture, while focused on a particular event, is a broader look at that event in the context of the times in which it happpened as well as it's impact on the future.

I have been impressed by the scholarly presentation of history in The Great Courses Series. So I was pretty disappointed when I put this into my DVD and saw Rufus Fears, "Master Story Teller", professor of Classics at Oklahoma. This guy does not even come close to being a serious historian, he is provincial, prejudiced in various silly ways, and quite frankly ignorant of anything but mostly mythological fluff that you can find on the history channel. He says so many things that are just plain incorrect, or mythological. But what is most annoying is is interpretation of history, beyond his superficial understanding. He talks in a manner exactly like a Sunday morning TV Evangelist. He treats the Book of Exodus as historical, even the miracles. He thinks the Battle of Bunker Hill was actually fought on Bunker Hill. Every 12 year old knows it was actually fought on Breed's Hill. It just goes on and on.
