Schlock, cheap gimmicks, and overdoses of B-movie hysteria make for a very enjoyable popcorn marathon, especially with the lights off and the sound cranked up. Every criticism aimed at Castle is well founded, but the man brought a touch of P. T. Barnum showmanship to his films and for those of us who can remember watching them as kids (even on late night TV) this is a treasure trove of fond memories and guilty pleasures. He may have treated his audience as suckers but we were more than willing to let him.

Had a few friends over and we watched all four disks. This was a hoot! With his classics (using the term loosely) Homicidal, Strait Jacket (with an over the top performance by Joan Crawford) and The Tingler as well as his biggest hit 13 Ghosts, we had a blast. The fifth disk has an affectionate biography with an additional audio track that was even more fun. If you loved those old B movies of the fifties and sixties then this is the set for you. Each disk has lots of fun extras. I read the review below and obviously disagree but this may be due more to age than anything else. When I was 9 years old The Tingler had me running from the room, I was that scared! Bet these films couldn't scare any 9 year old these days. This for me was nostalgic fun. Hope you enjoy these as much as my friends and I did.

Boy-oh-boy! What a major disappointment! If you are anticipating lots of B-movie fun & enjoyment out of this William Castle collection, then prepare yourself for something of a let-down!_____ Out of the 8 movies featured in this collection (all dating from between 1957 to 1963) only 2 were what I would call near-stand-outs and worthy of more than just a measly 2-star rating._____ From my point of view, these films were a pretty pathetic return from a guy like Castle who had earned himself a reputation for being a director who was supposedly able to deliver sensational thrills & chills on less-than-sensational budgets._____ I found that not only did Castle have a moronic sense of humor when it came to his "gimmicks", but he was also something of a plagiarizer who shamelessly ripped off Hitchcock and, yes, even Disney films in order to develope plot-lines for his own films._____ All-in-all - I was not in the least bit impressed with this William Castle collection. And, yes, that's really too bad 'cause I was hoping that these films would be a "scream", but they were far from being that (with, of course, the exception of Strait-Jacket and Mr. Sardonicus).
