Diamond Rings is the nom de rock of Torontonian John O'Regan, formerly of The D'Urbervilles (originally called Jude & The Obscures). His new project is glammy electro-pop that wears its (mostly British, mostly 80s) influences on its fingers: Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, a touch of goth here, a touch of Bowie there. "On Our Own" is the standout. Its flaws are that the lyrics aren't great and that (sorry Mr. Rings) occasionally it sounds like The Killers. For fans of the 80s, synths, Canadians and men wearing make-up.
Amazing debut album. The library doesn't have his sophomore album (Free Dimensional) but it's also brilliant though not as much as this one. Great beats and lyrics and he's awesome himself.
