Almost totally worthless. The wide-angle footage of Berlin trains sweeping across the city gives this atrocious movie the only genuine heft it's got. Most of the screen time, however, belongs to vapid, extraordinarily UNinteresting creatures... dullards, really, who populate the film in place of characters. Lame slapstick (an armoire door that won't stay closed; an antagonistic couple vandalizing each other's movie star photographs, etc) combines with self-righteous hysteria. I couldn't stand any of these people -- not the chain-smoking men with their yellowed teeth (apparent even in black & white) nor the women who wore victimhood on their sleeves. This movie is TERRIBLE! Historical significance isn't everything -- as anyone who tries to sit through this will soon find out.

It's a bit surreal to view this film of Germany pre-Hitler. Berlin looks prosperous and modern and the scenes depicted are somewhat idyllic. In a few short years, this would all be destroyed.
