As a writer I found this book important in revealing the workings and structure of many successful short story writers. For someone who has a tendency to explore every tangent and thus write endless stories of untenable length, this book has helped illustrate a slimmed down craft for our busy times. Short stories and Haiku (or micro-poetry) may be the perfect forms for the short attention spans and the minimal leisure reading our modern lives allow. Like the guy who taught me to paint (houses) said, "If you can't paint it with a 3" brush, what are you doing?"

Varied group of literary stories, generally accessible and entertaining, a little heavy on the humour. Each selected and introduced by a well known writer; the brief intros also vary in interest. I enjoyed almost all the stories. Good anthology.
