NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • "A briskly paced, terrifically suspenseful work that steadily builds toward a tense and terrifying climax."—People (Page-turner of the week) He slips into homes at night and walks silently into bedrooms where women lie sleeping, about to awaken to a living nightmare. The precision of his methods suggests that he is a deranged man of medicine, prompting the Boston newspapers to dub him "The Surgeon." Led by Detectives Thomas Moore and Jane Rizzoli, the cops must consult the victim of a nearly identical crime: Two years ago, Dr. Catherine Cordell fought back and filled an attacker before he could complete his assault. Now this new killer is re-creating, with chilling accuracy, the details of Cordell's ordeal. With every new murder he seems to be taunting her, cutting ever closer, from her hospital to her home. And neither Moore nor Rizzoli can protect Cordell from a ruthless hunter who somehow understands—and savors—the secret fears of every woman he kills.BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Tess Gerritsen's Die Again. "[A] top-grade thriller . . . Sharp characters stitch your eye to the page. An all-nighter."—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) "Creepy . . . will exert a powerful grip on readers."—Chicago Tribune

What happened to Isles? Rizzoli looking a bit unsympathetic. Author tired of these characters?
Story line a bit on the hackneyed side, but a good enough read.

Too much blood and gore and too many medical terms. I stopped after 50 pages.

This book was exactly what I was looking for in a good summer read. It kept me engaged and eager to read all the way to the end. Pretty easy read as well..shouldn't take more than a solid day or two at the beach to finish! Super creepy, and I enjoyed the medical aspects of the book.

A medical mystery page turner. I had to suspend disbelief several times: detective falling in love with victim on first sight; badly maimed victim shooting to kill; detective working a hot trail all alone, etc. The author lets us know about half way through who among the limited characters the real killer is. She then fills her plot with references to Greek mythology to show that women have been sacrificed by men since the ages, of course, to appease the gods, hoping that the reader will see some connection to her story. Another filler that can be scanned over quickly are the numerous surgical details in the corner's reports. IMO, some flaws, but a good read. First mystery book I have read where the main character, the lead detective, Rizzoli, plays such a minor role. She is not liked by other characters, struggles to make herself "heard", and is constantly fighting for control of "her" case. All this friction among colleagues! What a tough life a female detective has!

Very good novel. Plenty of action with no dull moment. The rhythm is relentless till the end. I'll read more from this author.
