Sea of Hooks recounts the parallel narratives of Christopher's youth in San Francisco, where he struggles within the icy Victorian household of his mother, and his quest, in Bhutan, for answers to the questions that haunt him. The book is comprised of the shattered fragments of Christopher's world and is driven by the forces that compel him to reassemble it at any cost.

From Library Staff

Publisher's Weekly describes this stream-of-consciousness story as a "spiritual biography". Christopher is the sensitive son of a distant father and a difficult mother; he ponders the state of the world through fragmentary musings.

An exquisitely lyrical book that shows as much as it tells that life is sad and confusing but also beautiful. -Christopher

This is not a "light" read, it is an entirely compelling one. Hill's use of language carried me through and left me wanting more. There are very few books that I want to read again right away. Sea of Hooks is one of those rarities. Highly recommended.
