I like Richard Corliss generally, but this book is too much money for what it gives you. Pretty photographs, okay synopsis. But something is missing when 2 of the photographs misidentify two actors - Frank Darien is in the photo, not Russell Simpson (Grapes of Wrath) and Marsha Hunt is not in the photo even though it says she is in The Human Comedy. I don't know who is. That kind of error should not be made; it takes not much research to get that right. Also, short shrift is given to some important movies and their Moms and too much to some others. It's a glossy picture book without much substance (and too much money!). Books of this nature without an index is a no-no.
