This was a great novel - the characters were cleverly devise and described, the plot developed well, and everything came together in the end. As an Oregonian who has been to all the locations in the story, I was impressed that the author nailed them all in her descriptions, from flora/fauna, to geology and terrain, to weather and culture (I've known men like "Bear"). I'd give the mystery itself a B+, since there were some overly obvious hints but also nuances that unsuspectedly turned out to be integral parts of the climax. I'd recommend this book to anyone I know, but highly recommend it to anyone who has lived here in the Pacific Northwest.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. I live in Oregon and have visited central Oregon many times which helps in relating to the setting. I thought the characters, and their flaws were believable as well. It kept me turning the pages, and I do encourage reading it and will look at other books by this local author.

Grieving sisters are sent to live in a tent with their eccentric, damaged father, in small-town Oregon in the late 80s. I couldn't put it down after a few chapters!

The sisters have very different perspectives: one's more of a Sixth Sense-esque ghost story, and the other is more of a Donna Tartt / Harper Lee coming of age mystery.

This book nicely blends mystery and a coming-of-age story. Told in alternating voices of Young Ollie, ten, who sees ghosts and has them trailing after her and Sam, a teenager dealing with her first crush while trying to clear her father of murder. Each girl’s perspective feels unique and brings not only the narrators to life, but the other characters as well.
