Loved this movie! It showed the climate of things back in those days that maybe some younger folks wouldn't remember other than what they've read about. Then I was pleasantly surprised to see a local familiar face--from Bloom- Carroll H.S.--Chaz Black plays the player from Ohio State also nominated for the Heisman that year!
Good true story sports movie. The ending was a shock to me. I didn't know the story of Ernie Davis, and I am glad that I got to see it. Inspirational and historiacal, but sad.
What a great story! This one rates way up there in sports movies. Not a big fan of college ball, but still left me rooting for more.
Best sports movie ever!!!!!!!
This wasn't bad. I found it dragged on a little long. I like a lot of football movies better than this (eg. Remember the Titans, Invincible, Friday Night Lights etc.)
A good movie, hints at a lot of things, like racial hatred but is still a good story about football.
Must See – The Express (2008) 130 min.
1 Corinthians 15:10 “But by the grace of God, I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God (that is) with me.”
This quote from the Bible reflec the words for which Ernie Davis lived-by his whole life as an African-American in the 1950s struggling to be the best he could be in college football during a time of racial conflict that spiritually poisoned American society. It was during the time of the civil rights movement where Ernie Davis wasn’t just carrying a ball for football supremacy but for every African-American who just simple wanted to “be”. The film’s sports theme is the backdrop to the more important story on racism in America. Watching Ernie Davis defy public sentiment and advice from his “play it safe” coach, young Davis infused his own contribution for civil rights through football, who together with thousands of others such as the great Reverend Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, created an entire movement. The film is a powerhouse of emotion; as the credits rolled, I just sat and reflected. The film has a great story portraying a great human being, who shone on others such as his coach and taught those around him the power and humility of the Holy Spirit.
